Membership Tiers

Country/Regional Clubs: $150-$280/year. Often family-run, 4-8 courts, casual community vibe. Lights extra ($2-$5/session). Volunteer-run weekend tournaments. Best value if you live regional.

Suburban Clubs: $250-$450/year. 6-12 courts including hard and synthetic grass. Pennant participation, social comp, member-only court access. Most Australian tennis happens at this tier.

Metro/Premium Clubs: $600-$1,500/year. 12-20+ courts, mixed surfaces (hard, clay, grass), club professional, gym, cafe, member events. Examples: White City (Sydney), Royal South Yarra (Melbourne), Royal Sydney Golf Club (tennis section).

What is Usually Included

Unlimited court access (member-only), social hits, pennant entry (extra fees apply), club tournaments, locker rooms, parking. Not included: floodlight fees ($2-$5 per session at most clubs), court hire for guests, coaching.

Pennant & Comp Costs

Inter-club pennant: $80-$200/season (10-12 weeks). Plus team levies ($30-$80) and finals/awards. Total comp player annual cost on top of membership: $200-$400.

Junior & Family Discounts

Most clubs offer junior memberships at 30-50% of adult rates ($80-$200). Family memberships ~1.5-2x adult rate covers parents + kids. Always ask -- many clubs have hidden discounts for new joiners.

When Is Membership Worth It?
